The Olympics of course provide ample fodder for never-ending discussion, due to their extraordinary corruption matched only by their extraordinary popularity. My guess is most MUT runners don't care if their sport is in the Olympics, which is certainly true of the audience. Some new sports like climbing turn out to be excellent on TV and are worthy additions, while a hundred others are worthless holdovers few viewers are even aware exist, while costing the organizing committees millions of dollars to host.
So like you say, Merrell was really smart promoting MUT as an Olympic sport, because while that won't happen, it's easy PR.
